Operating at home - 02 September 2009

Hello and welcome. I am Ben M0GKY - an amateur radio operator living in Essex, a county in the South East of England.

I have held a radio licence of some form since 2001 when I became 2E1IPA - the then novice grade of licence. In 2007 I obtained my full licence and became M0GKY.

I operate from a less than ideal location - a 2nd floor rented flat (apartment). This means I am limited to small temporary aerials which are mounted on to an all-metal balcony when in use and have to be removed when not in use. At present I am using aerials designed for mobile operating - a Watson W-7000 2m/70cm vertical and a Multi-Ranger 9 vertical for HF.

Despite these limitations, I have successfully made contacts across Europe on 20m (14MHz) with only 10w of power. I've also had a report of being heard in North America.

On this site you can find out more about what equipment I am using, browse my logbook and QSL card wall. Or why not get in touch to arrange a QSO?
